Friday, January 29th, 2010

The Student Council declared today Hats for Haiti day! Everyone who contributes a minimum of $2.00 for the cause is allowed to wear their hat all day in school. All funds will be donated to Haiti via the American Red Cross.

There are a variety of hats in the hallway, making things extra bright on campus. Here’s one of our favorites being sported by Jude!

High School Hauntings!

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

The second floor of the dormitory was transformed into an amazing haunted house this morning — care of the High School Program. The entire High School program pitched in to make this a SPOOKTACULAR event! Scary sound effects filled the air and ghosts, goblins, skeletons and vampires abounded. The decorations were extra creepy and behind each door awaited a different “haunted attraction”. The students were fabulous in costume! There was even a mad scientist mixing up a special foggy drink and entertaining the visitors!

The students did a great job working together to make this a Halloween event most of us won’t forget!

Valentine’s Celebrations

Friday, February 13th, 2009

The campus is filled with activity today in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Red balloons and dance music fill all parts of campus. Early Childhood had a dance in the multipurpose gym this morning — while the Dance-A-Thon participants did the Cha-Cha Slide in the Field House. Middle School held a mixer and High School and School to Work students will be dancing the afternoon away as well.

Student Council raised nearly $500.00 for the American Heart Association with their Dance-A-Thon efforts. Everyone should be really proud of the work that they have done to help a great organization.

Middle School Coordinators have fun at the mixers too!

The student council president
The Student Council President has fun on the dance floor. This year he also made many changes to the student council to focus on philanthropy, volunteerism, and focusing on what the students can give back to the community and each other. Way to go!

This Friday, the student council is holding a dance-a-thon to benefit the American Heart Association. To date, they have raised $400. The students will be dancing in the fieldhouse from 9-2. They will be having a bake sale and pretzel sale during the dance to add to their donation.

Also, the students of the high school program will be holding a penny war in March to raise money for the Aquatic Center. The classrooms will be paired with their buddy classes and will be in competition to see who can bring in the most pennies. The winning team will receive a pizza party.

Message from the Student Council President

Friday, January 16th, 2009

As the President of the student council there is always something to take care of, such as planning events, meeting, and etc. When I first decide to run I knew it would be a hard job, and I understood that it was a lot of responsibility. I knew that this would be the ultimate challenge for me. I believed in myself, just as well as my fellow student did too. That’s why when I was up on that podium making my speech, I was making a commitment and a promise to all the students that voted for me as well as the students that did not.

I will always try to make a difference, and work hard because that is what I believe in. That is an example that I am setting for all the future student presidents as well as all the students. This is a new year, a year unlike any other. I am trying to encourage all the students to take part in every activity that we as student council put together. Something new we are trying is peer tutoring and a penny war, both fun ways to learn to work as one and support each other.

Another event that is coming soon is the Valentine’s dance, and this year at the dance we will be having a fund raiser. We will be having dance-a-thon; it will be held all day for the people who were sponsored. The money earned from function will be going to American Heart Association. I hope that I serve as a good president and continue to represent the students.
