A Five Minute Introduction to Braille

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

dotlessbraille.org provides a simple five minute introduction to Braille Basics for anyone who is just learning or parents who might not yet know braille. The main goal of this website is to increase braille literacy by demystifying braille without oversimplifying it.

They state .. “This site is intended as braille resource for everyone from novice to expert, including print-disabled adults who are looking for a way to start learning about braille. The material here has been written by a sighted person; it is hoped that this perspective of a dot-challenged person will give braille-literate blind persons some useful insights into the difficulties that sighted persons encounter in learning braille.”

Take five minutes to find out more at dotlessbraille.org!

They also have a great resource called find-a-cell for quick reference.

The Walls are Going Up!

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Every day construction crews are on the job at Overbrook, building the foundations for the future aquatic center. It is an exciting time on campus as we know what is in store when the doors of the center are finally opened. Children and staff can see daily progress on this long term project. The aquatic center will be an incredible addition to the Overbrook campus, providing a new home for the OSB Huskies and more opportunities for therapeutic and educational activities.

This picture was taken last Thursday standing between Nevil Center and Biddle and looking towards Malvern Ave at the Lobby, Team room and hallway entrance to the new building.

This picture was taken yesterday standing inside the lobby area and looking in the same direction. The outside wall forms are being formed and concrete will be poured in between the foam insulation.
