Overbrook School for the Blind Breaks Ground on Campus Expansion, Advancing Phase Two of $20 Million Taking Flight Campaign

Philadelphia, PA (Sept. 17, 2026) – Overbrook School for the Blind (OSB) broke ground today on a major campus expansion, marking the launch of Phase Two of its $20 million Taking Flight Capital Campaign. The expansion will add a new kitchen, student cafeteria, bus turnaround and more to OSB's 26-acre campus. The groundbreaking transforms years of planning into action, turning the campaign's vision into a physical reality on campus.

"For nearly 200 years, OSB has adapted to meet the needs of our students, and this groundbreaking is the latest example of that commitment," said Pamela Vasserman, Director of Development and Communications. "It's proof of what our donors, families and staff can accomplish together, and it sets the stage for everything still ahead in this campaign."

About 40 guests stand and listen to remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony.

The Taking Flight Campaign is a multi-million-dollar effort to enhance safety, accessibility and opportunity for current and future students. In addition to campus infrastructure, the campaign supports initiatives including CVI Complete, a program serving the growing population of children diagnosed with Cortical Vision Impairment; OSBnb, a fully accessible, student-run bed and breakfast on campus; the Braille Signage Initiative; and a Personal Investing and Financial Literacy Course for students with visual impairments and additional disabilities.
