Accessibility Statement
Overbrook School for the Blind is committed to providing an accessible and inclusive digital experience for all members of our community, including people who are blind, visually impaired, deafblind or have other disabilities.
Accessibility is central to OSB’s mission and extends to the way we share information online. We continually work to make our website easier to perceive, understand, navigate and interact with using a wide range of devices and assistive technologies.
Our Commitment to Web Accessibility
The OSB website is built on Finalsite’s Composer content management system, which is designed with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA in mind. Finalsite provides built-in accessibility tools to help identify issues such as missing alternative text, improper heading structure and insufficient color contrast, while also supporting keyboard and screen-reader navigation.
As part of our ongoing accessibility efforts, OSB works to:
- Provide descriptive alternative text for meaningful images.
- Use logical heading structures to help visitors navigate content with screen readers and other assistive technologies.
- Use descriptive, screen-reader-friendly link text rather than vague phrases such as “click here.”
- Maintain sufficient color contrast and readable text.
- Use accessible, responsive page layouts that work across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
- Provide captions, transcripts or other accessible alternatives for multimedia content when appropriate.
- Avoid relying on images alone to communicate important written information.
- Review website content for accessibility as pages are created and updated.
These practices align with Finalsite’s recommended content-authoring standards, including proper heading structure, alternative text, video captions and meaningful link language.
Accessibility Tools
Our website includes accessibility tools designed to provide visitors with additional options for customizing their browsing experience. Through Finalsite’s accessibility technology and integrated accessibility solutions, users may be able to adjust features such as text size, contrast and navigation according to their individual needs. Finalsite also supports automated accessibility monitoring and tools that help identify common accessibility barriers.
These tools are intended to complement—not replace—accessible website design and content practices. OSB continues to prioritize accessibility throughout the creation, review and maintenance of website content.
Assistive Technology
The OSB website is designed to support navigation using keyboards, screen readers and other assistive technologies. Because assistive technology and web browsers are continually updated, visitors may have the best experience when using current versions of their preferred browser, operating system and assistive technology.
Third-Party Content
Some areas of the OSB website may link to or incorporate content provided by third-party platforms. While we strive to select accessible services and resources, OSB may not have complete control over the accessibility of content hosted or maintained by outside organizations.
If you experience an accessibility barrier involving third-party content accessed through our website, please contact us so we can assist you in accessing the information or service.
Accessibility Is an Ongoing Effort
Digital accessibility is an ongoing process. As technology, content and accessibility standards evolve, OSB will continue reviewing and improving our website to provide an inclusive experience for our community.
We welcome feedback from people who use assistive technology and from anyone who encounters an accessibility barrier while using our website.
