Athletics

Empowering students through teamwork, confidence, and competition.

At Overbrook School for the Blind, students aged 13 and older are encouraged to explore the excitement of athletics through our inclusive extracurricular sports program. We offer five competitive sports — Swimming, Wrestling, Cheerleading, Goalball, and Track & Field — all led by certified Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments (TVIs) who provide expert coaching and individualized support.

Through athletics, students build teamwork, confidence, social skills, and independence. Whether competing at home or traveling to events in Maryland, West Virginia, New York, or Boston, our athletes represent Overbrook with pride and true sportsmanship.

As an active and charter member of the Eastern Athletic Association of the Blind (EAAB), Overbrook School for the Blind hosts competitions throughout the year and our student-athletes travel to compete against other schools for the blind. All of our sports are adapted for athletes with visual impairments.

A Proud EAAB Member

Connecting athletes with a community of visually impaired competitors

As an active and charter member of the Eastern Athletic Association of the Blind (EAAB), Overbrook hosts and travels to athletic events throughout the year. Each sport is thoughtfully adapted to meet the needs of athletes with visual impairments, ensuring every participant can compete, grow, and succeed in a supportive environment. Overbrook students continue to participate in sports after graduating by joining sports organizations for the blind like the United States Association for Blind Athletes or the Blind Sports Organization.

Continuing Beyond Graduation

Lifelong opportunities for growth, connection, and achievement

Many Overbrook Graduates continue their athletic journeys by joining national organizations such as the United States Association for Blind Athletes and the Blind Sports Organization. The skills, discipline, and confidence developed through Overbrook’s athletic program continue to empower our students long after graduation.
