Overbrook TVI Summer Program
Your Path to Job Searching and Employment
Overbrook School for the Blind presents the Overbrook Transition Vocational Initiative Program (TVI), a two-week residential summer program to prepare students who are blind or visually impaired for employment. TVI is presented in partnership with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services (BBVS) within the Department of Labor & Industry’s Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.
The Overbrook TVI Summer Program is for Students 16 - 21 years of age with visual impairment. This program runs 2 weeks in July (including weekends).
Program Focus and Opportunities
The Overbrook TVI summer program includes the opportunity to:
- Develop job searching and interviewing skills
- Job shadow at a variety of work sites
- Work up to 20 hours with job coaching support
- Up to 20 hours paid internship
- Develop independent apartment living skills
- Expand O&M skills and explore public transportation
- Utilize assistive technology including iDevices in the home and workplace
- Engage in Social and team-building activities
- Experience living with roommates in an apartment on the historic Overbrook School for the Blind campus in Philadelphia
Program Attendees
The Overbrook TVI Summer Program is for students who are visually impaired ages 16 through 21 who are planning to work competitively, attend vocational training, or attend college after graduation.
To qualify for the Overbrook TVI Summer Program, students must be registered with their local blindness and visual services agency. Funding for the TV I program is provided by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services within the Department of Labor & Industry’s Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.
