Our Mission
Since 1832, Overbrook School for the Blind has always delivered on our mission of developing and delivering education for those with visual impairments so that they have the greatest opportunity to experience active and fulfilling lives. Today Overbrook School for the Blind offers specialized education programs for approximately 200 children who are blind, visually impaired, deafblind, or living with additional disabilities.
Eligibility
In order to be considered for admission to Overbrook School for the Blind, a student must be referred in writing by their local educational agency (LEA)/School District. Overbrook School for the Blind does not discriminate in admissions on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, ancestry, veteran status and all other classes protected by applicable law.
Overbrook School for the Blind's admissions team works collaboratively with LEAs, School Districts, and families who are interested in enrolling a student in one of our programs.
Admissions Process
- The referring LEA/School District sends a referral—in writing—to Overbrook School for the Blind.
- The Overbrook School for the Blind Admissions Team closely reviews the referral and the prospective student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) to determine if the student can be served in one of our programs.
- Upon completion of the evaluation, the Overbrook School for the Blind Admissions Team recommends the program/placement for the prospective student.
- If the family agrees that Overbrook School for the Blind is an appropriate match, Overbrook School for the Blind notifies the referring LEA/School District of the determination. Enrollment is scheduled once the required paperwork from the LEA/School District and Overbrook School for the Blind is complete.
